Come out for testing: Obaseki Said to residents

The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has charged residents to take advantage of the ongoing massive screening and testing to know their COVID-19 status.

He also announced the discharge of 18 more coronavirus patients, who tested negative for the virus and cleared from the state’s isolation centres.

Obaseki made the disclosure on Sunday in Benin, while admonishing Edo residents to stay safe and save lives.

He said: “We have discharged 18 patients who have tested negative for COVID-19 from our isolation centres. This brings the total number of discharged persons to 57.

“I implore all residents to take advantage of the screening centres across the 18 local government areas of Edo State to know their status. Stay safe.”

Edo Commissioner for Health, Dr. Patrick Okundia, also revealed that the remaining active cases were being managed at various isolation centres in the state and were responding well to treatment.

He noted that since the outbreak, Edo State had recorded 1,438 suspected cases of COVID-19 and 172 confirmed cases, spread across 13 of the 18 LGAs, including Oredo, Esan West, Egor, Ovia Northeast, Ikpoba-Okha, Uhunmwode, Etsako Central, Esan Southeast, Akoko-Edo, Esan Central, Ovia Southwest, Owan East and Esan Northeast.

Okundia urged residents to complement Edo government’s efforts at curtailing the spread of the coronavirus, reiterating the need for citizens to present or report themselves through the Edo State COVID-19 toll free lines.

Breaking: ASUU suspends 2-week warning strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has suspended its two-week warning strike it declared last week across all public universities in the country. The union announced the suspension on Wednesday at a press conference held at its headquarters in Abuja. President of ASUU, Chris Piwuna, who read a prepared speech before newsmen, explained that the development followed intervention by the Senate and some other well-meaning Nigerians.
