Shagari, Former President Laid To Rest In Sokoto

The remains of the former President Shehu Shagari, were on Saturday committed to mother earth in his hometown, Shagari, Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto state.

The former president had passed on Friday at the age of 93. He was interred at exactly 3.30pm following a funeral prayers led by Professor Shehu Galadanchi, former Vice Chancellor, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto.Earlier in the day, his corpse was received at Sultan Abubakar Airport, Sokoto by a delegation of Sokoto State government led by Governor Aminu Tambuwal.

Notable personalities who attended the burial included a delegation of the Federal government led by Boss Mustapha, Secretary to Government of the Federation.

Also at the burial were governors of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states, Tambuwal,Abubakar Atiku Bagudu and Abdul-aziz Yari Abubakar.

Others were former governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa, former Independent National Electoral Commission chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, Waziri Sokoto, Professor Junaid Walk, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, former Minister of Water Resources, Mukhtar Shagari.

Retired police officers protest over unpaid pensions

Some retired police officers under the contributory pension scheme on Tuesday, May 21, protested at the National Assembly over alleged several months of unpaid pensions with a call on President Bola Tinubu to remove them from the scheme. The protesters decried the extreme challenges they endure, saying that the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) has failed to pay their entitlements for several months causing them and their families untold hardship.
